Recent Rule Changes
A number of rule changes for the International Mirror have recently been approved by ISAF among these changes is an amendment which see the return of central sheeting for the Mirror, allow partial GRP Re-enforcement of wooden booms, using a 2:1 purchase to tighten the main halyard and using a 4:1 purchase on the vang or alternatively the use of a gnav strut arrangement
Ironically when the Mirror became an International Class in the 90's, Australians were forced to drop their favoured central sheeting position in order to comply with the international requirements. So if you still haven't become comfortable using stern sheeting, you now have the option to change back. Below is an extract from ISAF providing further details on the new requirements.
Other amendments have enabled variations to the construction of GRP Mirrors. In the UK, this has seen the development of the MK3 Mirror designed by Phil Morrison and made by Winder Boats. Take a close look at the published photos, and you will notice the following features in the new design:
-
Removal of drainage holes in transom
-
Removal of forward storage compartment
-
Raised mast step
-
Scalloped out shape at the front of the cockpit
