MacIntyre Perpetual Trophy

 

The International Mirror Class Association of Tasmania conducted its annual MacIntyre Cup Series at Montrose Bay Yacht Club over the weekend, November27 & 28.. The MacIntyre Cup is held to promote Mirror sailing and to honour Dr.MacIntyre who introduced the Mirror to Tasmania 40 years ago.

The series of nine races attracted a fleet of 12 yachts with a mixture of crew ages from youngsters to the "over fifties". Despite the very challenging fluctuating westerly winds, eight races were completed with only one race having to be abandoned. The conditions tested the boat handling skills of participants and provided valuable experience. The variability of the winds in both direction and strength brought about many changes in yacht placings as each race progressed, and the racing was close and exciting. Principle Race Officer, Martin Grose, did an excellent job in providing courses to suit the conditions.

The Sub- Junior Title was taken out by Daniel Pullen and John Harvey in their yacht The Edge. They sailed extremely well and closely challenged the more experienced sailors throughout the series. Fourteen year old Jessie Atherton, with her father Grant as crew in their boat Kamikaze, sailed extremely well to take out second overall placing. First overall was Andrew Roberts with his eleven year old son Stuart in Pukeko, and third overall was Jenny Graney and Dan Parry in Carpe Diem.
