e-meetings

Daniel and Greg Pullen had set up a site with Yahoo for committee members to be able to participate in meetings on line.

Jenny tried to send paraphrased bits of the meeting to the Pullens without success. It was also difficult as the flow of the meeting had to be disrupted for her to go down to the computer etc. (A computer-literate person with more accessable computer might have made it a bit easier!!)

Those members present were not in favour of the idea. Input from other members of the commitee are invited on this.

RYCT Winter Race days August 15 th.

Getting Sabot Sailors to helm a Mirror.

It was decided that if 30 th January was a suitable day for the DSS/RYCT Dinghy group, the top 12 Sabot Sailors in Tasmania would be personally invited to helm a Mirror for a challenge race in the morning at DSS. IMCAT would provide a cash prize. Jenny to contact the relevent people re the date and have it put in their printed program.

For this to work, we need good Mirrors to be available for them to sail.

The Tasmanian Sabot Team for the Nationals will be annouced at the end of October, so we will know these 12 Sabot helms in plenty of time.

Imcat will provide a cash prize for any club running Mirror promotional events.

Mirror Polo Top.

Jenny asked if we should look at a Mirror top similar to what KBSC had done in the Sabots and Lasers.

Further discussion and ideas need to be gathered re this.

Should we have a National top, perhaps in different colour for different States?

The logo would need to be simple eg the Mirror “M”. Different venues could add their design on the back for Nationals. Other ideas????

Training

What training can and should we be offering? On a club basis, mentoring needs to play a big part. Each experienced Mirror sailor in a Club needs to take some responsibility for this, and perhaps share this week to week on a needs basis.

Training excercises could be publicised eg on YA website for the benefit of those helping others as well as for individuals looking to improve their performance. Jenny to contact YA re this.

We need to grab opportunities as they arise to get help from knowledgeable sailors in the state. David G. noted that Victor K would be making several trips to Tas to train Nick Behrens and helm (Qld) for Olympics after Athens and there might be some opportunities for knowledge sharing there, as well as getting eg Nick Behrens for some tips. Any training activities need to be well supported and organised.

Where we have reciprocal pennant races with KBSC and Montrose, training could be run in the morning. It is hoped that other clubs run with this idea in the North of the state.

Some sort of training will take place at the MacIntyre Cup. Thoughts, ideas?

Meeting closed at 10pm

Next meeting Monday 6 th September 7.30pm, at 6 Carinya St.
